| The tunnel that can destroy the Sagrada Familia (and the Milà House)
The opposition against the project has two main protagonists:
the Sagrada Familia preservation society
(Patronat de la Sagrada Familia) and the neighbourhood association AVE pel Litoral.

The Sagrada Familia preservation society,
has made a study in depth and has presented officially their statements against the project. In the writing of the objections have been participating: Oriol Riba, emeritus professor of Geology of the University of Barcelona, specialist in the subsoil and the phreatic layer of the city of Barcelona, Carles Buxadé and Josep Gómez Serrano, Professors of Structures, Engineer, Antoni Gens.
The study in short says the following:
- The structure of the Holy Family is brilliant, and therefore, vulnerable. Because of that the authors of the study qualify the passing of the train under the temple "recklessness that borders the irrational".
- The project presented by the Ministerio de Fomento, which intends to be a "screen of protection", is nothing more than an absorber of deformations without independent stability. This so called "wall" will have to bear the weight of the facade of Glòria , in Mallorca street. The columns alone will have to support 22.000 tons.
- While the analysis of the Ministry does not contain even a study of the vibrations or of the impact on the building in the passing of time, the technical information indicates that the vibrations of the works of excavation at first and of the passing of trains later on could affect in term damage the mosaics, glass windows and roofs, and could cause landslides.
- The tunnel passes only to 1,4 m under the foundations, which make the foundations seem to fly.
- The terrain on which the temple is constructed has a great geological complexity. The tunnel will pass under the phreatic layer (under the temple pass two tubes) and inferior to the sea level: a fast and aggressive intervention in the subsoil -like what would be exerted during 28 months of construction of the tunnel- could generate definite consequences.
- The danger the gap creates for the gallery (which passes under the level of the phreatic layer) stresses the pressure exerted by the belfries, this could move the sands by which they are supported and could have disastrous consequences.
- Anything that happpens inside the tunnel could cause breaks, haul water, cause landslides and would be able to demolish the structure of the temple.
In short, due the large number of visitors that the temple receives daily, an unpredictable catastrophe could take many lifes and cause great damage to the building.
Platform AVE for the Coast (Plataforma AVE pel Litoral)
Pictures of the demonstrations of the Platform AVE pel Litoral extracted from their website avepellitoral.info
The platform has presented the statements against to the route of the highspeed railway to the center of the city, supported by 342 organisations of owners, that represent 9.353 houses where 28.071 persons live, in Barcelona. Among other protests they declare that:
- With the current plan still there are many affected houses. Apart from the adjoining risks of a work of this magnitude, they have calculated that in this version of the route the tunnel passes under 960 houses. However, the route along the coast reduces the number to 39 of affected estates and with much less impact.
- In 6 years the outline has been modified 4 times.
- Complete document of the allegations (document in Spanish).
